Talking about the book and playing the album “Painting Snails”, with band Weewegulls and On the Wirre’s Fenny DJing and compering.

Using the annual cycle of a hillside allotment as a framework, Stephen John Hartley’s startlingly direct narrative tells his incredible story: engineer, guitarist in seminal punk bank NOTSENSIBLES, busker, letterpress and woodblock printer, late medical school entrant, A&E consultant, NHS whistleblower, restorer of old vehicles, builder of valve amplifiers, DIY record label aspirant.

Beautifully illustrated by the author with over 30 woodcuts and line drawings, the book is imbued with a DIY ethos, exploring how much we can do for ourselves without relying on the establishment – localisation versus globalisation.
