Jennie is giving us an insight into the life and times of “Mrs Lewis – The Drunkard’s Friend”. Victorian Blackburn was recognised as the most drink-afflicted town in the world. Elizabeth Ann Lewis, Blackburn’s Temperance Queen, devoted her life to improving the condition of it’s working class. She provided all kinds of support and recreational activity as an alternative to the town’s staggering six hundred licensed premises. Ironically, we’ll be meeting in the Dog Inn at 7pm!
